The local forecast for Saturday, August 7th, called for thunderstorms and lightning. But foreboding weather didn’t deter the 134 players who gathered for the 2010 PMI golf tournament. As in years past, the tournament was held at the Golf Club at Thanksgiving Point, located in Lehi, Utah. The Golf Club is a championship-caliber course that has been ranked in the top ten new courses in the country by Golf Digest and was recently dubbed one of the country’s “hidden gems” by Links Magazine.
Most of the players waited in the clubhouse for the tournament to begin, nervously watching the sky and praying the weather would hold. Fortunately, the day turned out to be absolutely perfect. The sun beamed down and spirits were high as the players headed to their carts and started the shotgun-style play.
Sponsors of this year’s tournament included Hilton Hotels, the Utah Flash, StoresOnline, Anthony Morrison and Landmark Catering. In all, 22 businesses generously contributed to the tournament, helping it become one of the best PMI golf tournaments in history. There were multiple course prizes and as the day progressed, several players came close to claiming the $15,000 hole-in-one, $10,000 hole-in-one and $5,000 putt challenge. The photo below shows just how close one player, Tanner, came to claiming the $5,000 putting prize sponsored by My eBiz. It would only have taken a stiff wind to nudge his ball in!
For the grand finale, everyone gathered in the Great Room of the clubhouse as officials tallied the scorecards. Cash prizes were given for first, second and third place, with the grand prize going to the team of Elden Parker, Matt Reinbold, Jeff Nicol and Andy MacGillvray. A raffle followed, with incredible gifts provided by sponsors such as Maverik, Kneaders and Paradise Bakery. It was a wonderful experience for all who participated, and everyone is anxiously awaiting their opportunity to win big in next year’s tournament!
